A highly anticipated matchup in the Pacific Northwest is finally upon us. The Boise State Broncos will take on the Oregon Ducks in a game that could significantly impact both teams’ College Football Playoff hopes. With both squads aiming for a playoff berth, Saturday’s clash is poised to be a defining moment in their seasons.
The Ducks entered Week 1 ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll, but they slipped four spots despite securing a 24-14 victory over Idaho. Oregon led 14-0 at halftime but struggled to close out the game, needing a late touchdown from Tez Johnson to fend off the Vandals. The Ducks’ offense sputtered at times, with three punts, two turnovers on downs, a lost fumble, and a missed field goal—leaving plenty of room for improvement as they prepare for Boise State.
On the other side, Boise State also showed vulnerabilities in their 56-45 win over Georgia Southern. The Broncos’ defense struggled, allowing 461 total yards and trailing 30-28 midway through the third quarter. However, a strong finish, fueled by running back Ashton Jeanty’s record-breaking performance, helped them pull away. Jeanty, a redshirt junior, ran for a school-record 267 yards and six touchdowns, solidifying his status as a top prospect for the upcoming NFL Draft and a Heisman Trophy candidate.
The Broncos have a strong history against Oregon, winning all three previous meetings, including the infamous 2009 clash marked by a post-game altercation between LeGarrette Blount and Byron Hout. Their most recent victory came in 2017 when Bryan Harsin’s squad defeated Mario Cristobal’s Ducks 38-28 in Las Vegas.
I think Oregon flexes on offense and gets its first win over Boise State while proving to the rest of the country that it is a legitimate national title contender.
